John Proctor Holloway

John Proctor Holloway, Jr. of Alpharetta, Ga. died peacefully on January 8, 2018 at the age of 89. Thirteen days before his 90th birthday.

John is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joan Toolin Holloway; children, John Proctor Holloway, III (Jean) and Anne Holloway Jenkins (David). Grandchildren, Ryan W. Holloway (Anna), John Patrick Holloway (Lindsey), Katherine Tierney Jenkins, David Marshall Jenkins, and great granddaughter, Evelyn Weston Holloway. He is preceded in death by his parents John P. Holloway and Octavia Weston Holloway, as well as, siblings, Senator Albert W. Holloway, William G. Holloway, and Eva Holloway Ford.

John was born on January 21, 1928 in Norfolk, Va. He graduated from Maury High School(Norfolk) in 1946, and graduated from Harvard University in 1951. He spent 2 years in the U.S. Army stationed in Korea. He joined General Adjustment Bureau(GAB) as an insurance adjuster in Norfolk in 1951. He was transferred from Norfolk, to Goldsboro, N.C., Richmond Va., Atlanta, Ga. and New York City. Residing in Fair Haven N.J. He was named President and COO of GAB in 1983 and retired in 1988. In 1990 he and Joan moved to Alpharetta, Ga. to be close to their children and grandchildren. He enjoyed a second home in Sea Pines in Hilton Head S.C. where he enjoyed memorable times with his family and friends.

While at Harvard John was a member of the SAE fraternity and the Hasty Pudding Club. He was on the Board of Directors of the Drug and Chemical Club in New York. In Alpharetta, he was a member of the Windward Association of Retired Men (WARM). He was a longtime member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church.

A memorial service will be held Thursday January 18 at 2pm at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, 3180 Peachtree Rd., Atlanta, Ga. 30305. In lieu of flowers, donations should be directed to St. Judes Childrens Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tn. 38105.
