Joel Kelly

–

Dahlonega, Georgia

Joel Reade Kelly was born in Atlantic, Virginia to Billye and William Kelly on July 23, 1966, and passed away unexpectedly on March 12, 2024.

Joel graduated from Virginia Tech in 1991 with a degree in History, and was a lifelong lover of all things “Hokie”. He was also an active member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

Joel met the love of his life, Suzy, in North Carolina and they were married in 2000. Joel’s career as a pharmaceutical executive offered the family several moves throughout the east coast. In 2022, they moved to Dahlonega, GA and fully embraced and fell in love with the area and community. Together they created something special for the community by opening The Bear Necessities Café. Joel had a passion for cooking and the cafe provided an opportunity for his culinary creativity. Joel was happiest when he was serving or entertaining others. He was able to fulfill a lifelong dream of performing on stage with the talent of the local Holly Community Theater in several productions. Joel loved every minute of it. He also recently became the President of Dahlonega Downtown Business Association (DDBA).

A master of trivia, Joel could recite song lyrics or famous movie lines quotes like no other. He enjoyed golf, pickleball, Jimmy Buffet songs, and making a good crab boil, but above all, he loved being with his family and friends. Family was at the center of his heart.

Joel is predeceased in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Suzy and children August and Cole.

Donations may be made to the Holly Community Theater in memory of Joel Kelly. Donations can be made payable to The Holly Theater Community Center, 69 W. Main Street, Dahlonega, GA 30533.
