Joanne Carol Fowler

Joanne Carol Fowler, 73, of Dahlonega, GA died on May 12, 2012 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Born in San Diego, CA she was the daughter of the late Ole and Elizabeth Jensen. Joanne married Jack Fowler in 1961 in Gulfport, MS. She became known as Mar in 1991 when her first grandchild started calling her by this name because she played Mario Brothers with him on Super Nintendo. A few years later her granddaughter began calling her Mari and the next two granddaughters called her Mara so she began to tell everyone her name was like a Latin phrase. Joanne retired as an RN in 2003 and had lived in Dahlonega for 14 years. She moved there from Snellville where she had resided since 1976. After retirement, Joanne became a member of the Red Hat Society. In addition to her husband, Joanne is survived by children, Michael J. (Robin Leigh) Fowler of Fayetteville, CA, Jacqueline (Paul) Anderson of Dahlonega, GA and Keith Fowler of Athens, GA; brother Fred (Renee) Brooks of Flower Mound, TX; and six, much-loved grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) or the American Lung Association (www.lung.org).
