JoAnn Young Schmidt JoAnn Young Schmidt, age 79, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family after a courageous journey with pancreatic cancer.
Born on August 28, 1946, JoAnn lived a life defined by love, strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was a beloved wife, mother, mimi, sister, aunt, and friend whose gentle spirit and generous heart touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
JoAnn found joy in life's simple blessings. She loved spending time in the sun at the beach or on her front porch, tending to her plants and yard, and baking treats for her family and friends. She had a servant's heart and found great fulfillment in volunteering and helping others whenever she could. More than anything, she treasured time with her grandchildren, whether celebrating life's milestones or simply sharing everyday moments that became lasting memories.
JoAnn is survived by her devoted husband, Dennis Schmidt; her son, David Schmidt, and his wife, Andrea, and their daughters, Hailey and Charleigh Schmidt; her daughter, Janna Brumby, and her husband, John, and their children, Cameron Jo and Jeb Brumby; her sister, Jackie McCracken, and her husband, Tom; her nephew, Stuart McCracken, and his wife, Amy; her niece, Jennifer New, and her husband, Jason, and their daughters, Bailes and Clare New; as well
as many beloved extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish her.
JoAnn will be remembered for her quiet strength, steadfast faith, unwavering love, and the grace with which she faced life's challenges. She had a remarkable gift for making others feel welcomed, cared for, and deeply loved. Her legacy lives on not only in the family she adored but also in the countless lives she touched through her compassion, generosity, and selfless spirit. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that her love will remain with us always. We will remember her in blooming flowers, warm kitchens, sunny days at the beach, and every shared family gathering.
