Joan Day (Jo-Ann) Walker

Joan (Jo-Ann) Day Walker of Gainesville, GA passed away on February 28, 2011. Joan was born in Jacksonville, FL on March 9, 1930. Two years later the family moved to St. Augustine, FL. Joan went to school and graduated from Ketterlinus High, Class of 48 and then later attended and graduated from FSU class of 52. In the fall of 52 she moved to Atlanta to work at Richs where she was an assistant buyer. In 1958 she worked with the GE major appliance distributor for GA until 1964. In August of 1963 she married Allan Walker in St. Augustine and in August of 1964 she became a stay at home mom with the arrival of Robert Allan. Three years later, in October, Roger MacLean was born. Joan was a great mom, doing ALL the things that boys like to do and guiding them into successful careers. When the boys were out of college and working, Allan retired in 1989 and he and Joan moved to their home on Lake Lanier where they enjoyed lake living with friends and neighbors and visits from their sons and grandchildren. In 2001 Joan was diagnosed with Parkinson s disease, which she handled very well for eight plus years. She was preceded by her parents, R.W. Day and Madge Day of St. Augustine. She is survived by husband Allan MacLean Walker; son, Robert and granddaughter Jordan Anne of Michigan; son, Roger and wife Becky Fite and two grandchildren, Janey and Mac of Atlanta; brother, Robert Day and wife Esther of Keystone Heights, FL; and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to her caregiver Penny Ganzer. Family will be receiving friends and guests from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on March 2, 2011 at McDonald & Son Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on March 3, 2011 at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA. with Rev. John S. Martin of Deer Creek Shores Presbyterian Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the charity of one s choice.
