It is with a profound sense of love and loss that I, Blaine, share the passing of my beloved husband, Jim B. Cooper Sr., who was received into the arms of our Lord on December 21, 2024. Born on September 16, 1945, in Dublin, GA, Jim was an inspiring beacon of loyalty, kindness, and humility, whose life was a testament to the strength of his faith, the depth of his love for family, and his unyielding passion for football.
Jim, or Coach Cooper as he was commonly known, was a remarkable man. He devoted 31 years of his life to education, serving most of those years coaching and teaching at Forsyth County and Duluth High Schools. His influence extended beyond the classroom and the football field, as he used various sports as a medium to mold young minds, instill values, and foster a spirit of teamwork and resilience. He was a mentor and a leader, touching lives and shaping futures in ways that words can barely express. Jim's love for sports was matched only by his commitment to his faith and family. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Cumming for over 40 years, served as a deacon, and was involved in numerous church committees, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to his Christian beliefs. As it is written in Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." This verse encapsulates Jim's philosophy of life; he believed in teaching, empowering, and guiding the youth, both at home and in his professional life.
Jim leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication. He is survived by his adoring wife of 56 years, Blaine Garrison Cooper, his loving daughter Jennifer and her husband Jonathan White, his sister Sherrie and her husband Russ Hood, his precious grandchildren Cole White, Clara and her husband Dylan Pierce, Ali Cooper, David Cooper, his daughter-in-law Cindy Cooper, his nephew and niece Nick and Meredith Sanders, and a cherished family friend Tonya Reynolds. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Juanita Cooper, and his son Jimmy Cooper, Jr.
His departure leaves a void that can never be filled but his memory will forever be cherished. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at 1:00 pm at the McDonald & Son Funeral Home, 150 Sawnee Drive, Cumming, Georgia, 30040. The Celebration of Life will follow at 3:00 pm at the same location. In addition to his service, we will also be celebrating the life of Jimmy B. Cooper Jr, who met the Lord just 16 days prior on December 5, 2024.
In honor of Jim B. Cooper, please consider sharing your memories and photos of Jim on his memorial page. This will serve as a lasting tribute to a man who dedicated his life to the service of others and left an indelible mark on all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to his current church Mt Zion Baptist Church #2 in Murrayville, CUREPSP, or Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
