Dahlonega, Georgia

Jimmy E. Anderson Sr., 82, of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 9, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a legacy of service, family, and community pride.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Ruby Anderson and his beloved wife, Farrell McDonald Anderson.

He is survived by his children, Jimmy E. Anderson Jr. (Shelley), Chris (Elsa), Payton (Andrea), Alicia, his grandchildren, Anna Caitlyn, Myles, Nicholas, Evan, Estella, Erik, Jenna and Luke, numerous extended family members, and dear friends.

Although Jimmy was respected within the community, to his children and grandchildren, he was, above all, a devoted father and proud Grandaddy. That was the title he treasured most, and his family was his greatest source of pride and joy. He loved deeply, spoke his mind freely, and brought a distinctive spirit to every room and every role he filled. His humor and unmistakable character made him unforgettable to those who knew him.

He was passionate about his heritage, proud of his family, and never short on opinions. And, of course, there was one thing his family and friends might never let him forget: Jimmy was a terrible driver! It was one of those little things that made him unmistakably Jimmy and will surely bring a smile to those who remember him.

Jimmy’s devotion to Dahlonega and Lumpkin County was evident throughout his life. He generously gave his time, energy, and talents, serving both in leadership positions and in everyday ways that strengthen a community. Through public service, preservation of local history, and care for the people around him, he left an enduring mark on the town he proudly called home.

His service included nearly 40 years as postmaster, as well as roles on the Dahlonega City Council, Vice Mayor/Mayor Pro Tem of Dahlonega, Lumpkin County Planning Commission, Lumpkin County Development Authority, and as president of the Historical Society.

Jimmy had a particular passion for genealogy and local history. He took great pride in researching family roots, preserving stories from generations past, and sharing his knowledge of the people and events that shaped Dahlonega. His dedication helped preserve the community’s heritage and reflected his belief in remembering where we came from.

His community involvement extended beyond government and history. Jimmy served as a pageant judge, participated in the Miss Georgia organization, and had the honor of serving as a Grand Marshal for Gold Rush celebrations. He was also a member of Dahlonega Baptist Church.

Jimmy’s life was about more than titles, accomplishments, or positions held. It was about the people he loved, community he served, history he preserved, and the memories he created. He will be remembered as a devoted father, loyal friend, and very proud Grandaddy. His stories, spirit, and legacy will continue through his family and the Dahlonega community.

The family will receive friends at Dahlonega Funeral Home, 20 Gibson Road, Dahlonega, Georgia, 30533, on Monday, October 12th, 2026, at 1:00pm. The funeral service will begin at 3:00pm at the same location, with interment to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Dahlonega, Georgia.

As we remember and celebrate the life of Jimmy Anderson, we encourage friends, family, and community members to share memories and upload photos of Jimmy to the memorial page. His rich legacy of love, service, and dedication will continue to inspire us all.
