Jerome L. Blankenship

–

Cumming, Georgia

On December 24, 2022, after a short battle with cancer and chemo treatments, Jerome Lee Blankenship

succumbed to several infections after multiple weeks in the hospital.

Jerry was born on January 18,1936. His younger years were spent with his single mom, Bessie

Blankenship, until she passed away when he was six. He spent a short time in an orphanage and was

adopted by Ellias Palmer Dibble who had two daughters and he adored Jerry as if he was his own son.

Jerry and his step sisters became very self-sufficient due to the fact his step father had to travel for work

constantly. In fact, he showed early business acumen by starting an ice cream business at age 13. He

bought an Ice cream refrigerated hand truck and made enough money to buy a television and other

items for the household.

After high school Jerry joined the Army. Jerry was very athletic and while in the Army, he was a star on

an award - winning Army Volley ball team.

After the Army, Jerry went to Illinois University and was an excellent baseball player. After graduation,

he made it all the way to The Chicago Cubs Triple A Farm team.

After giving up his dream of making the majors, he went to work at United Parcel Service, Inc. He

quickly rose through the ranks in the Finance and Accounting Function to become District Controller,

Region Controller in multiple Regions and finally Finance Region Coordinator for half of the UPS Regions

in the Continental United States.

Jerry was a visionary. He was always looking for ways to streamline and improve the company:

Some of his major accomplishments included--

Development of a Revenue Audit Program that added almost a half billion dollars a year to UPS' bottom

line.

Consolidation of the various Billing, Accounts Payable , Payroll and C.O.D. Departments throughout the

United States saving millions in the process.

Re-engineering the Company's Internal Audit Function to address major areas of risks.

Everyone who knew Jerry respected him. He was a people person to his core. He could walk into one of

his many areas of responsibility and know not only the administrative people by name, but also in many

cases, the names of their husbands, etc.

After retiring from UPS, Jerry sat on the board of two bank startups where his efforts helped them

achieve success. He could never sit still. Always looking for the next challenge.

Jerry is survived by the love of his life, Donna. They were married for 60 years. He is also survived by his

daughter Julie Blankenship Moch and husband Bill Moch, his son Tim Blankenship, his 2 grandsons

Michael and Matthew Moch, granddaughter Cassie Satterlee and step sister Barbara Dibble Gignac.
