James R. Smith

James R. Smith 92, of Cumming, Georgia passed away on Saturday, October 9th, 2021. Jimmy was a member of Bethelview United Methodist Church in Cumming, Georgia. Jimmy is survived by his wife of 66 years Sarah Smith of Cumming, Georgia. Children; Elaine Gleeson (Ed) of Coal Mountain, Georgia; Joy Smith (Dan) of Coal Mountain, Georgia; and Stan Smith of Coal Mountain, Georgia. Seven grandchildren; Edwin Gleeson (Holly), Will Gleeson (Mary Beth), Alan Smith (Misty), Jason Smith (Susan), Tyler Smith (Lindsey), Kirby Smith (Megan), and Riley Smith (Jenna). Fifteen great grandchildren also survive.

Jimmy was born on September 20, 1929 to parents Webb and Betty Smith. He earned his Bachelor Degree in Forestry from Louisiana Tech University. Jimmy served his country in Korea after graduation from college and returned to the States. At this time, he met his wife, Sarah. They were married and welcomed the birth of three children during their lifetime together. Jimmy worked in forestry in Alabama, Louisiana, Florida and Mississippi during his lifetime. He retired in 1996 from Georgia Pacific and made his home in Georgia with his wife living close to their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Sunday, October 24th, 2021 from 2:30pm - 3:30pm at McDonald and Son Funeral Home.

A celebration of life service will be in the chapel of McDonald and Son Funeral Home on Sunday, October 24th, 2021 at 3:30pm.
