James Tillman Roberts

James Tillman Roberts known as J.T. to his family and friends of Cumming, GA passed away

peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on February 24, 2016. J.T. was born March 18, 1924 in College Park,GA. He was the youngest of 5 siblings. J.T. grew up loving sports especially baseball.After he graduated from Russell High School in 1941, J.T. signed with the Albany Cardinals in the St.Louis farm system. In 1943, J.T. enlisted with the U.S. Marine's where he served in the Pacific.

After WWII ended, he came home and started his career working at the Southern Railway. In

1950, he started working at Art Craft Engraving Company until he retired in 1989. On June 11, 1948, J.T. married his high school sweetheart and best friend Martha Joy Fries. During their 67 years of marriage, they enjoyed many fun times together. Joy use to drive J.T. and his

teammates to many traveling softball games. J.T. and Joy enjoyed playing golf together and

attending many Ga Tech football games. J.T. and Joy started their family in 1960 having twin

boys Bart and Bret and then in 1963 with son Steve. As a family of 5, they enjoyed many fun

times especially watching Bart and Bret play baseball. J.T. also enjoyed coaching Bart and Bret

for 10 seasons while Joy attended each and every game.

J.T. is preceded in death by his son Steve Roberts. He is survived by his wife Joy Roberts, his sons and daughter in laws Bart and Joni Roberts of McDonough and Bret and Karla Roberts of Alpharetta. J.T. has 6 grandchildren, Taylor, Bridgette, Steve, Lauren, Sydney and Cameron. He also had one great grandson Tyler. J.T. was not only a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he was a coach

and mentor to many.

Visitation will be on March 5th, 2016 from 11am - 12pm at McDonald and Son Funeral Home. Memorial services will follow at 12pm in the chapel of McDonald and Son Funeral Home.
