James Kleen

–

Cumming, Georgia

It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of James Ernest Kleen of Cumming, Georgia, on Friday, August 30, 2024 at the age of 77.

Born on August 28, 1947, in Lansing, Michigan, to Ernest and Dora Kleen, James was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and friend. He grew up in Lansing, and after graduating high school, James enlisted in the Navy. He served his country with pride during the Vietnam War from August 1965 to August 1968. After his military service, James moved to Florida, where he met the love of his life, Carla, in 1969. They built a beautiful life together, with James working as a general contractor in Florida and raising their two sons, James Ernest Kleen II and Brent David Kleen.

In 2011, after a well-earned retirement, James and Carla relocated to Georgia. James was a proud veteran and a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life: spending time with family, attending church, enjoying god’s creatures in his backyard, and capturing life’s moments through photography.

James was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Dora Kleen, and his in-laws, Herman and Juanita Goode. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Carla Kleen; his sons, James Kleen II and Brent Kleen; his daughters-in-law, Cheryl Kleen and Lauren Kleen; his adored grandchildren, Olivia, Chase, and Kate; and his four sisters, Becky, Janie, Barbara, and Linda. James’s warmth, humor, and dedication to those he loved will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

James will be laid to rest at Georgia National Cemetery on September 4, 2024. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to DAV (Disabled American Veterans - local or National Office), an organization James felt strongly about.
