Hugh Nathaniel Woods Obituary (1950 - 2022)

Hugh Nathaniel Woods, Jr., age 71, of Alpharetta, GA passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, November 6, 2022. He was born on December 23, 1950 in Fort Gordon, GA to Virginia Lemacks Woods and Hugh N. Woods, Sr. Growing up, he spent most of his life in Alabama, South Carolina and Georgia. He proudly served as a Marine in the early 1970's. That experience gave him the work ethic to be a dedicated and loyal employee. He retired from Kroger in 2001 after a more than 30-year career. His final retirement in 2016 followed a 15-year career at Cargill. He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Woods, Sr., his mother, Virginia Woods, and his beloved brother, Terry Woods. Hugh is survived by his best friend and wife of 30 years, Jennifer Woods; daughters, Diane Woods of Braselton, GA and DeShea Looft (Jay) of Alpharetta, GA; son, Daniel Shane Woods; sister, Beverly Duan (Ken) of Prattville, AL; grandchildren, Danny Woods, Chris Woods (Cree), Emory Looft and Gentry Looft; great-grandchildren, Terry, Jaxon, and Ember Woods; and numerous nieces and nephews. Hugh was affectionately known by those he loved as Woody, Daddy, Papa and PopPop. He found joy in helping others through gardening and home repair. He enjoyed exploring our great country, with recent travels through the Western states, and had just returned from a trip with his wife to Washington, D.C. One of Hugh's greatest pleasures was spending time playing with his grandchildren. Words cannot express the joy and happiness he brought to his family. Through his years of illness, he refrained from complaint, keeping a perpetual positive attitude and always staying busy. The family would like to thank the staff at AccentCare Hospice Center in Alpharetta for their kindness and assistance during the difficult time of his passing. Family will be receiving visitors on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 from 5-8pm at McDonald Family Funeral Homes, 150 Sawnee Drive, Cumming, GA. A funeral service will follow at the Georgia National Cemetery on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 11:00am.
