Hildegarde E. Schmid

–

Cumming, Georgia

Hildegarde E. Schmid passed away peacefully to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 12, 2022. She will be sorely missed, but her godly legacy will endure through her family. Hildegarde was born January 24, 1934 in Munich, Germany to Alois and Kreszenz Einhauser. She was a loving wife for 67 years to her husband George Schmid. Their life and love together was a love-story for the ages. Hildegarde and George met as teenagers, fell in love, and left home post WWII for the United States of America, where they were married, and began a life together. Hildegarde was a devoted wife and mother, and role modelled marriage and family for her children.

Hildegarde earned and lived the title of "Mom" proudly. Throughout her life she was honored to be a stay-at-home mom. She made sure her home was warm, loving, and supportive. Hildegarde was a great cook, always providing a hot meal for her family; and especially she was an amazing baker. She was beautiful, kind, gentle, sweet, and at the same time possessed a strength and toughness that belied her nature and stature. To say that her love for family and others was fierce and loyal would be an understatement. Her unquestioned faith in God was quiet but profoundly strong.

Hildegarde's husband, George was an accomplished Architect, Engineer, and author of books on gardening. It should be noted that George Schmid always attributed his success to the love and support of his wife Hildegarde. In his groundbreaking book, The Genus Hosta, George dedicated this book to his wife, Hildegarde. He wrote, "To Hildegarde, for a lifetime of love, friendship, devotion, and support." Those words ring so powerfully true today.

In the Bible, Proverbs 31: 28 states of the virtuous woman; "Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her."

Hildegarde E. Schmid is preceded in death by her husband, W. George Schmid and her son, Henry George Schmid.

She is survived by her son Michael Schmid (Debbie), her daughters Hildegarde Schmid and Wilhelmina Souter, and son Siegfried Schmid (Tammy). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michael Schmid, Jr., Daniel Schmid (Jill), Timothy Schmid, Amelia McDaniel (Jason), Casey Schmid (Dominique), Calvin Schmid (Courtney), Corey Schmid, Matthew Sweeney (Sarah), Nicholas Souter, and Kreszenz Hollifield (Justin). Hildegarde is survived by her great grandchildren; Autumn Rae, Mac, Molly, Sophia, Liam, Barrett, Harper, Hunter, Cambree, Roland, Landon, Emmy, Clint, and Courtney.

A private family graveside service will be held on a date to be determined at Sawnee View Gardens. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Staff at Delmar Gardens of Gwinnett. Their compassionate care, especially during these challenging times, has been amazing! At Delmar Hildegarde was daily roaming the halls in her wheelchair checking on her fellow residents. The staff there described her as a "beautiful soul" and called Hildegarde "Mom" or "Mommy"....which says it all.
