Helen Elizabeth Rajean Hiegel

Helen Elizabeth Rajean Hiegel left this earth on February 1st, 2016. She was born in Ellsworth, PA on August 29, 1921 the 12th child of Paulo and Magdalena Malik Rajean. For the last 41 years, she resided in Ft. Myers, FL. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph James Hiegel and her son Joseph. Helen had an exciting, exceedingly happy marriage of thirty four years.

Helen was very active and strong and she amassed many honors as a hospital volunteer, Salvation Army seamstress, religious education teacher, garden club worker, champion golfer, travel escort caregiver, book artist and author.

She raised six children: Kathleen DeBerardinis (Gene) of Atlanta, GA, Joseph, Mary Beth May of Ft. Myers, FL, Robert Hiegel (Alice) of Kennesaw, GA, Margaret Franklin (Robert) of Aiken, SC and Larry Hiegel (Linda) of Cedar Rapids, IA. She has 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, February 4, 2016 in the chapel of McDonald and Son Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, February 4 from 11:00 am -12:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens on Monday, February 8, 2016.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospice (www.stjude.org).
