Cumming, Georgia
Beloved husband, father, and grandpa, Harvey B Kuykendall was called to his heavenly home on September 6, 2024.
Born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on January 1, 1947, Harvey spent his formative years in Berry, Alabama. After graduating from Berry High School, Harvey answered his nation’s call to service and proudly joined the Marines. After basic training, Harvey’s first assignment was serving under Admiral Isaac C. Kidd, Jr. From there, he was deployed to Vietnam where he rose in rank and led a platoon in combat. For his service, Harvey received many military decorations, which included a Purple Heart for his sacrifice in battle. After returning home from his tour in Vietnam, Harvey attended Livingston University and graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. While never one to boast about his time in service, his love of country was great, and Harvey remained a proud Marine for the rest of his life.
After graduating with his bachelor’s degree, again Harvey found himself called to government service when he took a job with the IRS in Atlanta, Georgia. He worked for the IRS for 33 years, and in his 33 years of service, he worked in several different branches and was consistently awarded for his outstanding work and achievement. In the midst of his career at the IRS, Harvey managed to go to law school and get his Juris Doctorate degree.
Second to his love of family was Harvey’s passion for Alabama Football and the University of Alabama. In their 52 years of marriage, he and Annie spent many weekends traveling to Tuscaloosa to see Harvey’s beloved Crimson Tide play football. When football season was over, Harvey, Annie, and Kelly loved to travel the country, visiting many states and countries throughout the years.
Harvey’s first love was his family. The birth of his daughter Kelly was one of his proudest moments. Always her biggest supporter in life, Harvey was always standing with her, cheering her on—the best girl Dad.
Next to being an amazing Dad, Harvey was the proudest PawPaw when his two grandsons, Ty and Mason were born. When Harvey became a grandfather, his love of sports was poured into his grandsons. His joy was traveling to their games and watching them play. A constant fixture at all of their games, Harvey was affectionately known by all of the teams, and his contagious smile was a staple at every basketball, football, and baseball game. Everyone knew and loved Harvey, and his famous “alright!” with a thumbs up became his trademark sign of support and encouragement not just for his grandkids, but for all the members of the team. His presence right up front at all the games will be missed, but his spirit of sportsmanship and encouragement has left a lasting mark in the community.
Harvey is survived by his wife, Annie Stegall Kuykendall and his daughter, Kelly Womack and son-in-law Andy Womack and their sons, Ty Womack and Mason Womack. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents Harvey Kuykendall Jr and Eleanor Hartranft and his brother Chris Kuykendall and sister Kay Clark.
A memorial service for Harvey will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at 2:00 p.m at McDonald and Son funeral home. Visitation will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the memorial service.
