Gwendolyn Lee Steele, known affectionately by friends and family as Gwen, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2023. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 19, 1954, to Richard and Louise Ousley, Gwen's life was defined by a heart full of compassion, a spirit full of humor, and a mind full of creativity and thoughtfulness.
A graduate of Duluth High School in 1973, Gwen’s determination and dedication led her to a successful career at Scientific Atlanta & Cisco, where she served for 35 years. The same commitment was evident in her personal life too. She was a devoted member of Loganville First Baptist Church and often shared her love for music by singing in the choir. She also found joy in working with the youth group, helping to shape the lives of young individuals in her community. In her retirement years, Gwen became a Blue Angel volunteer for Clearview Hospital in Monroe, GA, a role she found fulfilling and rewarding. Yet, it was in her home kitchen where Gwen truly shined. She was a master at cooking and baking and enjoyed sharing her delicious creations with those she loved. Her other pastimes included reading, crafting beautiful watercolor paintings, arranging floral pieces, and enjoying social media videos.
Gwen was a cherished wife to her husband, Tony Steele, and a loving mother to her daughter, Lorie Murdock. She also adored her fur baby, Abby. Her family, including her sister Vicki Dilbeck and brother-in-law David Dilbeck, as well as brother Ron Ousley and sister-in-law Livia Ousley, were her top priorities. Her caring nature extended beyond her immediate family to her in-laws, cousins, niece, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephew. Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Louise Ousley.
In the words of the Bible, "A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, loving favor rather than silver and gold" (Proverbs 22:1). Gwendolyn lived this verse, placing love and kindness above all else. Her legacy of love, warmth, and laughter will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
We invite you to share your fondest memories of Gwen and upload photos to her memorial page as we celebrate her life and the joy she brought to ours. Your tributes will serve as a lasting testament to a life well-lived and a woman deeply loved.
