Gloria E. Clavijo

1938-2022

Gloria Esperanza Clavijo passed away on November 25, 2022, at the age of 84 due to complications from

congestive heart failure. She was born in La Paz, Bolivia, in 1938 to Primitivo and Juana Clavijo. She

immigrated to the United States in the early 1960s. Gloria became a US citizen and remained in the

Atlanta area for the remainder of her life. She had resided in Cumming, GA, since 1993.

Gloria placed significant emphasis on education for herself and for everyone in her family. She attended

Mercer College of Pharmacy and was the only woman to graduate in the Mercer Pharmacy class of

1965. She subsequently studied at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, France.

She began her career as a pharmacist at Grady Hospital in Atlanta. Later, she moved to what was then

Georgia Baptist Hospital, where she worked for more than 40 years. In 1992, she was selected to work

in the pharmacy in the newly acquired Baptist North Hospital, a 26-bed facility near GA 20 in Cumming.

She moved with the hospital when the new 41-bed facility was built in 1999. In 2002, it became

Northside Forsyth Hospital and is now a 389-bed facility. Gloria worked through tremendous growth in

the local hospital and in Forsyth County.

Gloria was also a respected member of the staff of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Cumming. She

devoted particular attention to the rapidly growing Hispanic community served by the church. One of

the most selfless people anyone would ever meet, she provided warmhearted support to parishioners of

Good Shepherd both while attending church activities and in their personal lives. Those of us whose

lives she touched find solace in the fact that we witnessed a true saint.

Gloria is survived by her sister, Gaby Aguirre, nine nephews and nieces, fifteen grandnephews and

grandnieces, and an entire community of beloved friends from Good Shepherd. Her stated wish was for

us to always remember that she loved each one of us.

Please join the family for a Rosary at 4pm followed by a visitation from 5pm to 8pm on Friday,

December 2, 2022, at McDonald and Son Funeral Home at 150 Sawnee Dr., Cumming, GA 30040.

The funeral service will be at 11am on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church,

3740 Holtzclaw Rd, Cumming, GA 30041. The service will be followed by a brief reception at the church

and then interment at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt Vernon Hwy NW, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Good Shepherd Catholic Church in the name of Gloria

Clavijo. Any donations will be earmarked to create a small area for prayer and reflection on the church

grounds dedicated to the memory of our dearly cherished Tia Gloria.
