CUMMING, GA - Gladys Hearn Bailey ('Coco') passed away on December 8, 2019, just eleven days past her eightieth birthday, following a valiant sixteen-month struggle with metastatic breast cancer. Gladys was born in Camp Hill Alabama on November 27, 1939 to Grady Claude Hearn and Ethel Walters Hearn. Gladys was raised in Langdale, Alabama and relocated in early adulthood to Atlanta where she met and married James Edward Bailey, her devoted husband of fifty-seven years. She was active in her children's schools and in the Episcopal Church throughout many decades, primarily in their family's hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. In addition to her loving husband, Gladys will be remembered by her younger sister Sara Taylor, her children Elissa Blandford (her husband James Blandford) and James Bailey Jr (his wife Therese Bailey). She will also be remembered by her five grandchildren, Jennifer Jacobs, Alan Michael Jacobs, Michaela Bailey, Bronwyn Bailey and Aidan Bailey. A memorial service will be held at St. David's Episcopal Church, 1015 Old Roswell Road, Roswell, Georgia at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2020. Interment will be held at Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Kentucky at a later date. The family would like to thank the Winship Cancer Institute at Emory Johns Creek Hospital who were of great comfort to Gladys and her family during her illness. Expressions of sympathy may be made in her name to St. David's Episcopal Church or to Shriners Hospitals for Children, both of whom Gladys faithfully supported.
