George Joseph Simms, Jr
May 15, 1944 – May 5, 2024
George lived an active, successful and fulfilling life. He dedicated his life to creating and maintaining relationships that spanned decades and at times great distances. He and his three older sisters were raised in Atlantic City by their loving parents. As a child George and his buddies created a lot of mischief around the inlet and under the boardwalk. In high school George excelled in athletics and enjoyed the camaraderie with all of his teammates and coaches. He was proud to be a “channel rat” lifeguard on Atlantic City Beach and maintained that position through college and continued to stay active in that community throughout his life. He went on to attend Seton Hall where he enjoyed college life to the fullest with his many fraternity brothers. After graduating from Seton Hall in 1966, he began a 32-year career with General Motors. Of all his many successes with General Motors, George most enjoyed the relationships he shared with the many people he met along the way…on both sides of the picket line. George and Nancy married in 1967 and had four daughters. He was dedicated to his family and gave them an extraordinary life filled with love, support and music. He loved sitting outside watching squirrels or finding an old barstool at a “real people” bar, drinking draft beer, listening to his oldies and connecting with and making friends wherever he went. Throughout his life, George never met a stranger. He had many friends from all walks of life that quickly became family. Maintaining these friendships remained a top priority for him. He was dedicated to his Catholic upbringing which was evident in every aspect of his life. His faith and spirituality were a guiding force that never wavered. Preceded in death by his loving parents Mary and George Simms, and his three sisters Betty, Barbara, and Dot. George is survived by his wife Nancy and daughters Kelly (Alex), Krista (Darren) Keri “Bear” (John) and Kasey (Obi), many grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews and brothers in laws and sisters in laws.
George passed away on May 5th, 2024, using every last bit of his heart to listen to his music with his family one last time. As he took his last breath “Stay” by Maurice and the Zodiacs was playing loudly. We all deeply wish our Pop Pop could have Stayed with us Just A Little Bit Longer. He is loved beyond words and will be missed every single day. In lieu of flowers, George asked that you tip your bartenders well. Cheers to everyone’s Pop Pop.
