George Leslie Shirey

George Leslie "BUD" Shirey was born to Bert Edgar Shirey and Ola Faye

Luersen on September 20, 1948, in Travis County Texas and passed on

September 17, 2022, in Gainesville Georgia. Bud grew up in Blanco Texas

and lived most of his life there. The majority of his childhood was spent with

his grandparents Martha and Ernest Luersen. There he developed a

passion for fishing, it was something he loved doing all his life. Bud's most

enduring quality was that he had a very gentle soul for someone who had

seen so much throughout his life.

Bud proudly enlisted in the Army during the Vietnam War and served with

the 258th Military Police Company, Fort Hood Texas, and received The

National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal W/ 2 Bronze

Stars, and The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal for his service. Bud

was laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on October 3,

2022.

Bud is survived by his daughter Tracy Elaine and son in law Andrew Jason

Grier, stepchildren Becky and Troy Danz, Cindy and Jesse Castillo, Shane

and Merideth Lechow, brother-in-law Charles Vaughn, and many beloved

grandchildren, great grandchildren, step grandchildren, nieces, and

nephews. He is preceded in death by by his parents, grandparents, son

Delmon Joe Shirey, sister Martha Shirey Vaughn, brothers Parker Ernest

Shirey, G.W Dyer, Joe B. Dyer, Andy Lee Dyer, and life partner of 23 years

Sally Chandler Lechow.
