George Anthony Petros

–

Cumming, Georgia

George Anthony Petros (May 19, 1927-December 3, 2018) began his new life in heaven after a long earthly life filled with faith and family. George was born in La Porte Indiana to Anthony and Christina Petros, moved to Chicago's Austin neighborhood and joined the US Navy after high school. Following an honorable discharge, he attended the University of Illinois, Champaign, IL on the GI bill, where he met the love of his life Patricia M. Kennett of Macomb IL. George received a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Pat and George were married after college and George worked in drafting and sales before embarking on a 20-year career as a property owner of multi-unit dwellings in Chicago. When children came along, Pat and George moved to Western Springs in suburban Chicago. George was then the broker-owner of Century 21 Petros Realty in LaGrange, IL. George was a charter (founding) member of the Presbyterian Church of Western Springs, which he regularly attended from 1955-2007 where he held a variety of leadership positions. In 2007 Pat and George moved to Georgia to be near family. George is survived by daughter Pamela Ruth Peterson and son John A. Petros, MD, both of Cumming GA and 6 grandchildren: Matthew Litchford, Jennifer Petros, Kristen Petros, Julia Petros, Stephanie Petros and Jacqueline Petros. He was fond of saying "every new day is a gift" but in reality he was a daily gift to all he met. He is greatly loved and will be missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Western Springs (Illinois) in 2019.
