George Green III

–

Cumming, Georgia

George Washington Green, III, of Cumming, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, May 8,
2024, at age 79. He was born to Dr. George & Alba Green in Memphis, Tennessee, on
December 19, 1944. He attended the University of Mississippi, where he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in 1969. George served in the US Army Reserves and was a banker & an insurance agent in his career. But he is mostly remembered for his heart for others. His favorite Scripture was Matthew 22:37-39:

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul
and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the
second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

He daily lived out obedience to that commandment in his love for family, his service to
the Church, and his kindness to everyone he met. He was a Sunday School teacher and
a mentor, he delivered groceries to those in need and to food pantries, he started a
prison ministry in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and a youth ministry in Rosedale, Mississippi, and he always had a truck and a willing heart to help.

George is survived by wife Mary Jo Green of Cumming, one son Russell Green (Amy) of Flora, Mississippi, three daughters Viva Kelley (Trey) of Huntsville, Alabama, Renee Bigelow (David Kunian) of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Laurie Hill (Chez) of Clackamas, Oregon, 3 sisters Mildred Darnell (Dave) of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Carolyn Mills of Lerna, Illinois, Laura McLeod of Headland, Alabama, 9 grandchildren Karrie Ann (Adam), Thomas (Becky), Taylor (Jordan), Morgan, Mary Alba, Charlotte, Leila, Aubrey, and Rhyannah, 4 great-grandchildren, 14 nephews & nieces, a generation of great nephews & nieces, numerous cousins, a loving family of in-laws, countless cherished friends, and his dog Harley. He is preceded in death by his parents.
