In Memory
Gail Roberta Crump (Hitchcock), peacefully went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on March 21, 2018 at the age of 79 at Northside Forsyth Hospital in Cumming Georgia.
Gail was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren were her special joy. Her heart was for only one man, Len. Alzheimer's took a part of her from us and cancer took the rest but she leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter and we will forever be grateful for the time we had with her.
Gail was born on April 13th, 1938 in Fort Fairfield, Maine to Kenneth Hitchcock and Margaret Hitchcock. She was raised in Brewer and Bangor, Maine. She met the love of her life in 1955, Leonard A Crump, and married Leonard on May 5th, 1956. Since Leonard was a military man, her life's journey took her to many places such as Amarillo, Texas; Aurora, Colorado; Angeles City, Philippines; Pauline, Kansas; Brockton, Massachusetts for 31 years, and finally retired to Milton, Georgia for 15 years. She loved to read, listen to country music, bake cookies, travel, lobsters, the ocean, helping others by taking time to listen and advise, and of course playing with those grand and great grandchildren.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Glornie Conant, Gerald Hitchcock, and her grandchild Matthew Crump. Gail is survived by her loving and devoted husband Leonard; her Children Leonard Jr (Laura), Lorna (Stan) Weiss, Ronald (Lynne), and Sharon (Rich Meucci) Crump. Along with a full house of 11 Grandchildren - Leonard Crump III, Stephen (Sarah) Weiss, Katie Crump, Amanda (Brad) Schwartz, Emily Rasori, Emma (Josh) Hardin, Kimberly Rasori, Michael Rasori, Mikayla Alberico, Tyler Alberico, and Julia Crump and 15 Great Grandchildren - Ahlexis Crump-Horton, Shane McGuin, Tylor McGuin, Riley McGuin, Matthew Schwartz, Addison McGuin, Peyton McGuin, Sidney Weiss, Tucker Schwartz, Michael McGuin, Sawyer Hardin, Kendyl Weiss, Lilly McGuin, Paxton Hardin, and Evelynne Schwartz. Her brothers Kenneth, Clayton, and Roger Hitchcock and many nieces and nephews.
Something Mom wrote down many times:
Do not stand at my grave and weep; I am not there; I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow; I am a diamond glint on the snow; I am the sunshine on ripened grain; I am the gentle autumn rain; When you awake in the morning hush, I am the swift up flinging rush of quiet birds in circling flight; I am the soft star shine at night
Do not stand by my grave and cry; I am not there and I did not die, I am with Jesus for eternity.
So, what is her legacy, how will we honor her, how will we continue what she started!
We will not stand at her grave and cry, we will look for her in everything we do. We will have the "Hope" only Jesus can provide us. So, together, we will stand, we will live, we will love, we will laugh, we will continue her legacy through each of us that she loved so deeply.
The family spent time privately grieving, remembering, and honoring Gail after her death. Gail will be buried with her husband once he passes at Arlington National Cemetery. The family is asking you to consider a contribution to Alzheimer's in honor of Gail since she was fighting this terrible disease daily.
