Elizabeth "Betty" Shuman

–

Cumming, Georgia

Elizabeth “Betty” Gaertner Shuman, 90, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026, one day after celebrating her 90th birthday. She was born on July 6, 1936.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Paul Gaertner, and her beloved son, Christopher Shuman.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Don P. Shuman; her son, Kerry Shuman (Christine Jackson and children, Sam and Brandon Shuman); her daughter-in-law, Donna Shuman (children Amy and Will Shuman); her brother, Paul Gaertner (Gale Starich); her brothers-in-law, Jim Shuman (Janet Shuman) and Steve Shuman (Pat Shuman); along with many extended family members and cherished friends.

Betty was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, mother-in-law, and friend whose kindness, warmth, and unwavering love touched everyone who knew her. She found joy in the simple beauties of life - flowers in bloom, butterflies dancing through the air, and every shade of purple, especially lilac. Her gentle spirit, generous heart, and steadfast faith were a source of comfort and strength to her family and community.

Betty and Don were longtime, faithful members of Deer Creek Shores Presbyterian Church, where they formed lasting friendships and made a meaningful impact through their years of service, compassion, and dedication.

Though her earthly journey has come to an end, Betty’s legacy of love, faith, and grace will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and remembered always.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at McDonald and Son Funeral Home and Crematory, 150 Sawnee Drive, Cumming, GA 30040.
