Obituary for Edward Delano Yeater

On Tuesday the 28th of May, 2019, Edward (nee, Elwood) Delano Yeater, 86, formerly of Clermont, FL., Louisville, KY., and Glen Ellyn, IL., passed away at his home in Cumming, GA.

Ed was born in Moundsville, WV on March 3, 1933 to the late Harold Stanton Yeater and Gladys Harriett (Connor) Yeater. He was married for fifty seven years to Claire Louise (Perkins) Yeater who preceded him in death on February 8, 2010. He later met Beatrice S. Gordy with whom he shared a loving and holy union until his death.

Ed was a graduate of Wheeling Business College and DePaul University, and a veteran of the Korean War. He worked for over twenty years as Vice President of Data Processing for Security Mutual Casualty Company in Chicago, IL. He was Founder and President of an insurance software company, NUCO Systems in Oakbrook, IL, and also worked as an independent insurance software consultant. Just prior to his full retirement, he successfully created and later sold his own insurance company, Yeater Insurance, Inc. He was a loving and supportive father of three children and four grandchildren, and kept close relationships with all his children throughout the years. Ed enjoyed music, especially classic Country & Western, and was an avid golfer and pool player, winning several local and some national pool tournaments. As a retiree, he and his first wife Claire left the Chicago area and moved to Louisville, KY in 2005, where they cared for his mother-in-law Regina (Marshall Perkins) Yockey until her death in 2009.

He met Beatrice (Bea) Gordy in Louisville in the summer of 2010. After exchanging marriage vows, they settled in Clermont, FL where they bought their first home together. A lifelong Methodist and contributing member, Ed later attended services at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Cumming with Bea while enjoying a new community of friends.

Along with his first wife and parents, Ed was preceded in death by his sisters Gladys Jeanette (Yeater) South of Moundsville, WV in 2017, and Doris Joanne Yeater also of Moundsville, WV in 1944.

In addition to Beatrice Gordy, he is survived by his sister Carol Judy (Yeater) Lanch and husband Ronald Lanch of Moundsville, WV; his children, daughter Regina Louise (Yeater) Till and husband Randall Till of Portland, OR., son James Harold Yeater of Fort Lauderdale, FL., and son Richard Elwood Yeater and wife Pamela (Bird) Yeater of Boulder, CO. Four grandchildren also survive their beloved grandfather including Elaine Margaret Till (29) of Portland, OR., Aaron Lawrence Till (23) of Portland, OR., Audrey Claire Yeater (12) of Boulder, CO., and Miles Lee Engeda Yeater (9) of Boulder, CO., along with many loved nieces and nephews, and Beatrice's children Bonnie and husband Jesse Underwood of Cumming, GA., son John C. Gordy of Murphreesborough TN., and Laura (Gordy) Weathersby of Houston, TX.

Ed was known among his family, friends and business associates as a man of great integrity, and also much humor. In his last days, he was still giving what his family called "that crooked Yeater grin" to those in his company. He was kind, affectionate, fun to be with, and an anchor to his family throughout his life. He is loved. He is missed. He will always be in our hearts.

A Memorial service, Bonnie Underwood officiating, will be held on Saturday, June 15 at 11:00 A.M. at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit, 724 Pilgrim Mill Road, Cumming, GA., 30040.
