Edna Derrick

Edna M. Derrick, resident of Dahlonega, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 10, 2025. She was born in Akron, Ohio on May 5, 1925. She lived most of her young life in West Virginia and her adult life in Falls Church, Virginia. She was a retired teacher and loved working with her students. Edna is preceded in death by her beloved husband Samuel Reese Derrick, parents Guy Calvin Beall and Callie Durham Beall, her brothers James and Earl Beall, her sister Mildred Beach, her granddaughter Cercre Spence and her great grandson Cameron Watson. She is survived by her son Michael and wife Sue Derrick of Sacramento CA, daughter Patricia and husband Gene Gawthrop of Dahlonega GA and son Mark Derrick of Falls Church VA, her grandchildren Janine Delmundo, Amy Watson, Sam Gawthrop, Kelly Kuchinski, and great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Edna loved to read and thoroughly enjoyed her three book clubs. She often went to opera concerts and theatre with friends and family. She traveled to many countries and enjoyed meeting new people and making friends. She was a welcoming hostess to all and especially enjoyed family gatherings. She was a faithful Methodist. We will all miss her and know she rests with her dear husband. Service will be held at Dahlonega Methodist Church on Monday, March 17 at 11am with a luncheon to follow. Internment will be at Arlington National Cemetery with her husband.
