Dahlonega, Georgia
Edith Hudson Woodard, 79, of Dahlonega, Georgia passed away gently on Monday, March 24, 2025, following a hard fought battle with cancer. She was at her greatly loved home in the woods, surrounded by her family.
Born on July 30, 1945, Edie lived her early years in Hapeville, Georgia. She attended Arlington Academy before graduating from Auburn University with a degree in education.
Edie lived her life with kindness and grace, a ready smile, and a joyful heart. She brightened the days of all around her, especially her husband, Rick. An ever-present mother, Edie never missed a game, concert, or pep rally, teaching her children the art of parenting through example. Always ready with hugs and kisses, chocolate pies, and encouraging text messages, “Nana E” was a never ceasing source of love and laughter for her grandchildren. She was well-known for her deep appreciation of witty puns, jigsaw puzzles, and fiercely competitive card games. A love of music was within Edie since childhood, and singing in the choir brought her a lifetime of joy and worship. Heaven’s Choir of Angels has gained a smiling second soprano with Edie’s passing.
Edie is survived by her devoted husband, Richard Woodard; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Bobby Erdin; son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Mariana Stone; five grandchildren, Milly and Brian Sewell, Santi Bartolome, Sophie Stone, Alex Erdin, and Chase Erdin; as well as many extended family members. She is the newly appointed Guardian Angel to her first great-grandchild, Baby Boy Sewell, expected on March 26, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Charlton Hudson, Jr. and Jessie Brackett Hudson.
A celebration of Edie’s life will be held on Friday, March 28th at 11:00AM at Dahlonega Baptist Church.
The family will host visitation the evening before, Thursday, March 27th from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Dahlonega Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Surgeries Overseas Assistance Program, operationsoap.org 684 Shoreline Road New London, NC 28127
