Doyce Irene Gilmore

Doyce passed away on January 21, 2017 after a long illness. She was an adventurous young gal, loving sister, dutiful wife, devoted mother, grandmother, and fun-loving friend to many. Born June 7, 1931 to Cora and Edward Garrett in Gainesville, she wed Jesse Perry in 1951. They raised two children in DeKalb County, were active members of Ousley Methodist Church and enjoyed square dancing, playing bridge, and traveling with friends. After Jesse's passing, Doyce married James Gilmore, attended Mt. Zion Methodist Church, and cherished many years in Ellenwood. She most recently was a resident of The Bridge in Lawrenceville. Primarily a homemaker, Doyce also valued her employment with the telephone company, the YMCA, and John Harland Co.

She is preceded in death by husbands Jesse Perry and James Gilmore; and her twin brother, Doyle Garrett.

Doyce is survived by daughter Deborah Perry Owens (Mark), Marietta; son Gregory Perry (Cary), Watkinsville; step-daughter Linda Christopher, Canton; step-son Rick Gilmore, Snellville; Brothers and Sisters - Bonnie Atkins, Gainesville; JoAnn Morris (George), Cumming; Frank Garrett (Joyce), Gainesville; Jack Garrett (Barbara), Bishop; Roger Garrett (Elizabeth), Cumming; Sister in-law Sarah Garrett, Cumming; 7 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

Arrangements will be by McDonald and Sons Funeral Home, Cumming. Visitation Friday, January 27, 2017 4-8 pm and Saturday 11 am -12noon. Service Saturday 12 noon in the adjoining chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Doyce's name to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 984 Panola Rd., Ellenwood, Ga. 30294.
