Dorothy "Dot" Doster

–

Cumming, Georgia

Dorothy Jo Irvin Doster, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away surrounded by the love of her family on September 1, 2026. Born with a gentle spirit and a steadfast heart, Dot devoted her life to caring for others and building a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering devotion.

Dot graduated from O’Keefe High School in 1953, a milestone she was always proud of and a foundation for the life she would build.

She was preceded in death by her mother Irene Irvin, her father Andrew Jackson Irvin, who died in the line of duty during World War II, her brother Tommy Irvin, and her sister Janice Irvin Walker. She now joins them in peaceful rest.

She leaves behind her devoted husband and high school sweetheart, Homer H. Doster Jr., with whom she shared a lifetime of love. When Homer left to serve his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War, Dot waited faithfully for his return so they could begin the life they had dreamed of together. Upon his homecoming, they married on November 5, 1955, and have spent 71 beautiful years building an enduring marriage rooted in loyalty, humor, and deep affection.

Dot is also survived by her two sons, Scott Doster (Laura) and Kie Doster (Patti), her granddaughter Taylor Shepherd (Grant)—whom she dearly loved watching grow up and become the woman she is today—her sister Beverly Harrell, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom cherished her deeply and will carry her love forward.

Dot was an active and dedicated member of her community. She was a longtime member of The Dunwoody Women’s Club, a proud, longstanding member of the Bellmere Garden Club of Johns Creek, and a devoted member of First Redeemer Church of Cumming. She was also most active in her sons’ lives during their Little League years at Murphy Candler Park in Dunwoody, where she poured her heart into supporting their teams, building friendships, and creating memories that lasted a lifetime.

Dot’s life was defined by devotion—to her family, to her faith, and to the people she loved. She had a gift for making others feel welcome, valued, and cared for. Her legacy is one of quiet strength, gentle guidance, and a love that will continue to shape her family for generations.

A visitation will be held at McDonald & Sons Funeral Home in Cumming, Georgia, on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with the service to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Tunnels to Towers, an organization honoring and supporting America’s heroes—reflecting Dot’s lifelong respect for service, sacrifice, and community.
