Memorials may be made by way of flowers, or donation to Children s Healthcare of Atlanta or St. Jude Children s Hospital. D. E. Hudson was born August 4, 1941, in Locust Fork, Alabama, to O.D. and Elsie Hudson. His lifetime of work and accomplishments cannot be described in merely a few words. He spent his life serving others in many different roles, running several small businesses, and enjoying all of his farms through the years, in Alpharetta, Cumming, and Washington, GA. He graduated from Sandy Springs High School in 1960, soon becoming a Journeyman Wireman and member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local 613 in Atlanta, GA. His interest in service to others began with volunteering at the local Chattahoochee fire station, in Alpharetta. Later he became Chief of the Volunteers, which lead to paid employment with the Fulton County Fire department. He served 23 years as a Captain for the Fulton County fire department, while also engaging with the Fulton County Police Department, as a Special Deputy. He retired in 1991 from the fire department, moved to Forsyth County, and continued volunteering as a Deputy Sherriff for the Forsyth County Sherriff s Department. There, he managed inmate work details and projects, hauled state and federal prisoners, and augmented patrol duty when needed. Hudson owned and operated many different small businesses throughout his lifetime. Some of which include, Hudson Firearms a mail order gun business, SOS Lawn Service, Hudson Small Engine Repair, Hudson Home Maintenance (owned with Homer Foster), Hudson Feed and Seed Store, Hudson Feed Delivery, E. Hudson Company - Antique Auction, and Chattahoochee Black Powder Arms (owned with Ken Enger). He was an expert marksman and gun collector, farmer, animal lover (except cats), and there was nothing he couldn t fix, repair, or build. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend; he impacted many lives and influenced an untold number of people throughout his life. Some appealing, some appalling, Hudson was famous for giving nicknames. A few of them include, Chicken Lips, Wormy, Lightening, Yellow hair, Flash, Spitty, The Great Gene Finley, Big Bob, Butter Bean, Boss Hog, Rabbit, Nanny Goat Sue, Shaky Akins, Han-let, Thunder Drawers, Space-Ace, Garfield, Todd Wad, Pee Man, Goat Lady, Church Lady, Drewfus, Unk and Unkette, Buzzard and Buzzette, Jumping Gary, Virginia, B.V.D., Pie-R-Squared, Lester-Flat, The Boy, That Boy, and Dog Breath, just to name a few! In addition to giving nicknames, he had a few of his own. Depending on when and how you knew him, you may have known him as Elliott, Foots, Captain Hudson, Hudson, Capt n, Poops, or Old Coot. No matter which name you knew him by, you knew that he meant what he said, his word was golden, and his world was black and white, with no room in between. He will be missed by all. In addition to his parents, his first wife Beverly Anne and his sister Nancy Sue Hudson preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife Mary Frances Hudson, eldest daughter, Bobbie Ann Hudson and Tim Wright, middle daughter, Thelma Nadine Blocksom and Tim Blocksom, and youngest daughter Kathryn Hudson Baker and Michael Baker; two step children, Lanny Gilbert, his wife Sharon Gilbert, and Barbara Gilbert; three grandchildren, Drew Edward Long, his wife Erin Long, Stacey Jennings Copeland, her husband Brian Copeland, and James Elliott Blocksom; eight step grandchildren; four great grandchildren, Denton Thomas Long, Emma Kathryn Long, Charley Grace Copeland, and Blake Hudson Copeland (arriving shortly); his brother, William Patton Hudson, his wife Susan Hudson and his daughter Leslie Hudson Euren; several other nieces and nephews; Wanda (Rabbit) Buckner; adopted grandson, Trent Martin; Homer and Marie Foster; and his beloved dog, Thatcher.
