On March 28, 2025, Deborah Elaine Alston, lovingly known as Debbie, entered into the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born on October 11, 1958, in Atlanta, Georgia and grew up in Dekalb County graduating from Southwest Dekalb High School. Debbie pursued her passion for science at Georgia Southern University and Columbus College, earning bachelor’s degrees in both Biology and Medical Technology. Her career as a medical laboratory technician and trainer for Abbott Laboratories was marked by a dedication to teach and mentor others.
Debbie had a natural gift for making people feel welcomed and encouraged, and she used those gifts to tell others about Jesus Christ. She was kind and offered comfort where it was needed. Debbie enjoyed cooking and crafting, sharing with others as she was able. She also enjoyed developing her ability to speak publicly, which contributed to success in her career.
Debbie is survived by her beloved mother, Betty Middleton Alston; her devoted sister, Lee Ann Hammonds, and brother-in-law, Ricky Hammonds; her cherished niece, Alaina Cook, and nephew-in-law, Daniel Cook; and her precious great-niece, Emmy Cook. She is preceded in death by her beloved father, Robert Lee Alston.
While our hearts ache with the loss of Debbie’s presence, we take comfort in knowing that she is now rejoicing in the presence of her Heavenly Father, completely healed. We rejoice in the promise of eternal life and look forward to the day we will see her again in glory. For we do not grieve as others do who have no hope (1 Thessalonians 4:13)
A celebration of Debbie’s life will be held to honor her memory where we will gather to reflect on the love, laughter, and faith she shared with us.
