Suwanee, Georgia

Dean Maxwell Brannon, of Suwanee, Georgia, passed away on July 11, 2026, surrounded by family at his residence in Suwanee, Georgia.

Dean Maxwell Brannon was born in Atlanta, Georgia at Crawford Long Hospital to Max Brannon and Phyllis Acree Brannon on October 8, 1956, and grew up in East Point, Georgia. He’s an alumnus of Briarwood High School and he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education from Georgia Southern College in Statesboro, Georgia and a Master’s degree in Sports Administration from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. In 1983, he did an internship with the Los Angeles Dodger’s minor league baseball team during their spring training at Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Florida. Afterward, he accepted an offer to become the General Manager of the Anderson Braves, a minor league baseball team in Anderson, South Carolina which later moved to Sumter, South Carolina. Soon after, he decided to leave managing baseball teams and turned back to the classroom. But before he did, Dean and Janice met at their singles class at First Baptist Roswell in 1987 and then married in 1989. He began teaching science for one year and then moved to physical & health education at Haynes Bridge Middle School in Alpharetta, Georgia in 1987. After 9 years teaching there, he was part of the founding faculty and staff at Webb Bridge Middle School in Alpharetta, Georgia in 1996. He also welcomed his daughter Ashley into the world that same year. He worked at Webb Bridge Middle School for 18 ½ years before retiring in December 2014. His love for sports, specifically college football, baseball and basketball, remained a constant in his life, as did his love for the Lord. Throughout his life, he remained an active member of many churches and sang in the adult choirs. Dean’s love for the Gospel was evident in everything he did, from loving and leading his family, to his interactions with others.

Dean was preceded in death by his father, Max Brannon, his mother, Phyllis Acree Brannon, his sister, Bonnie Cook, brother-in-law, Jim Cook, grandfather, Charles E. Acree, and grandmother, Nelle Acree.
