David Terrell Stone

David Terrell Stone, 74, Captain, United States Marine Corps, of Cumming, GA died on September 21, 2011, at Embracing Hospice House. Born in Miami, FL, he was the son of the late Harry and Helen Stone. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Teresa Marie Stone and his brother, Robert Eugene Stone David graduated from Georgia Military Academy, attended Georgia Tech and earned his bachelor s degree at Miami University. His graduate studies included Georgia State University and MIT. He served in the Marine Corps in Vietnam where he received two Purple Hearts and a number of other medals. He was promoted to Captain and resigned from the Corps in 1972. He retired from AT& T after 18 years. An avid golfer, he served as Marshall at Hampton Golf Course and Lanier Golf Club. He also enjoyed hiking and traveling. He is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly Stone of Cumming, GA; children: Kathryn Ann (Tony) Caulfield, Cynthia Lee Stone, Sharon Michele (David) Shim, Matthew (Rhetta) Stone; sisters: Barbara Arnold and Gail (Robert) Brown; stepchildren, Ben Rogers, Dorothy (Joe) Schrage and Kathryn (Ben) Adams; grandchildren, Addie and Elizabeth Caulfield and Devon, Kendahl and Madison Shim of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Courtney Stone of Rochester, NY, Will Stone, Gage and Karson Mays of Troy, AL, Kevin Rob and Mark Schrage of St. Petersburg, FL and Ashley and Kate Gibbs and Luke Adams of Cumming, GA. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 24, 2011, in the chapel of McDonald and Son Funeral Home. He will be interred at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton GA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wounded Warriors or First Baptist Church of Cumming, GA.
