On Friday January 24, 2025, David Roland Phillips III passed away peacefully in the presence
of his beloved family at Northside Forsyth Hospital. David had been a resident of Forsyth
County since 2005, after relocating to Johns Creek, GA in 1996 from Philadelphia.
David was born on October 7, 1955, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Father
Judge High School in 1973. After a stint at Dun & Bradstreet, he then embarked on a 34-year
career with Ryder Transportation, from which he retired in 2020.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, and watching sports, particularly the NCAA
Men’s Basketball Tournament. He had a lifelong love of the Philadelphia Eagles, and after
moving to Georgia, he became a fervent Braves fan. His most cherished time was spent with
his granddaughters, who he loved with all his heart.
A lover of sports, he thoroughly enjoyed coaching intramural sports and treasured the
opportunity to coach both of his children throughout their lives. He devoted over a decade to
volunteering with the Forsyth County Special Olympics, where he coached multiple sports.
David loved his country, family and every sport. He always took pride in his home, never
missing an opportunity to spruce up his property. He will be deeply missed and will forever be
