Gainesville, Georgia
David Edmund Japps, “Dave” 69, of Gainesville, Georgia passed away on the 95th day of April (Thursday, April 4th) 2024 at 9:39pm. It is believed it was caused from carrying his oxygen tank up a long trail to go fishing after a quick dive in the dumpster while having a smoke and Budweiser break.
He left behind a hell of a lot of stuff to his wife who has no idea what to do with it.
So, if you’re looking for tools, fishing poles, flair bottom jeans from the 1970’s, a massive three-decade collection of T-shirts, a blue 1988 GMT-400 truck that has been “slightly used”, a 1950’s handmade wood motorboat, and over a dozen flashlights.
You should wait the appropriate amount of time and get in touch. Tomorrow would be fine.
This is not an ad for a garage sale, but an obituary for a great Man, Father, Friend, and Bad Ass if needed born on the 81st day of 1955 that would be March 22, 1955, in layman’s terms at 10:53am in Boston, Massachusetts to 37-year-old Charles Lous Japps (deceased) and 31- year- old Winnie Eleanor Babcock (deceased). He had two older siblings, Karl R. Japps (deceased) of Elgin, South Carolina, and Karan S. Japps of Lithia, Florida.
After graduating from Cuyahoga Falls High School, Dave jumped right into working. He soon met and fell in love with Denise F. Japps of Stow, Ohio. Married for four years they had two sons, David C. Japps of Columbus, Ohio and Timothy J. Japps of East Point, Georgia.
In search for a new life Dave moved to Duluth, Minnesota where he began repairing furniture for Ethan Allen. He discovered his love of water skiing and rediscovered his love of the outdoors, fishing, and spending time with his sister Karan as well as his nephew and niece, Dean Larson, and Cyndi Stamps (Larson).
After a few more years Dave set a new course for South Carolina where his parents resided. He continued to work for Ethan Allen repairing and delivering furniture as well as opening stores. He soon made his way to Roswell, Georgia where he met and fell in love with Cindy E. (Davis) Japps. They soon had their first born, Michael E. Davis of Canton, Georgia and yes, his mother wanted to keep her maiden name alive.
Soon Dave and Cindy married on the 332nd day of 1991 which translates into November 28, 1991. They had two more children, Danielle E. (Japps) Mallicoat of Woodstock, Georgia and Matthew R. Japps of Gainesville, Georgia.
Dave started feeling ambitious in 1999 and opened with his wife Just Dave and Company Craftsman, a subcontracting company for construction. He got that ambitious feeling again in 2001 when he wanted to grow their business. They incorporated and changed the name to Just Dave Inc. As life goes in 2007 the housing bubble started to shatter and by 2008, they had to close the business.
Moving on Dave started working for the Mr. Handyman franchise until he retired in 2020. He enjoyed being able to go fishing whenever the urge struck. He also discovered the world of YouTube. He sat and watched for hours at a time. Of course, he soon gained thirty pounds and he was truly upset that he had trouble tying his shoes. He finally asked Cindy to get a pair of shoes with Velcro!
He enjoyed his life until he peacefully passed away in his home from Pancreatic Cancer. He was surrounded by his loved ones.
He will be sorely missed and survived by: His wife Cindy E. (Davis) Japps, his five children David C. Japps, Timothy J. Japps, Michael E. Davis (Michelle Fox), Danielle E. Mallicoat (Michael), and Matthew R. Japps. His grandchildren Thomas L. Mallicoat and Jaxson G. Mallicoat. His sister Karan S. Japps. Many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. All that loved him dearly and never forgot his tenacity, wit, charm, and grace (when pertinent).
He was preceded in death by: His parents Charles L. Japps, Winnie E. (Babcock) Japps. His brother Karl R. Japps. His beloved pets Nugent, Bear, Starla, Aerial, Lacey, Angel, Stubby ….. he had so many.
In lieu of flowers please give generously in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project or The Lustgarten Foundation (the largest funder of Pancreatic Cancer research).
