Daniel Petrochko

–

Cumming, Georgia

It is with great sadness that the family of Daniel Petrochko, of Cumming, GA, announces his passing at the age of 85. Family and friends surrounded Daniel with love, as he passed away peacefully in his home on April 10, 2024.

Daniel was born on May 5, 1938, in Alden, PA, to the late Peter and Magdeline Petrochko. At the age of fourteen, Daniel and his family relocated to New Jersey, where he remained until 2001. In 1956, he graduated from Dunellen High School and began working for Bakelite Company as a millwright apprentice, until 1958, when he enlisted in the United States Army with his brother, Robert. After being stationed in Germany, Daniel returned home in June 1961 to marry his high school sweetheart, Lorelei Sutton in August 1961. Daniel was honorably discharged from the Army in 1964. He completed his studies at Trenton State College, Trenton, NJ and received a Bachelor of Arts in June 1966, and Master of Arts in June 1971.

Daniel was employed by Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District where he taught high school for 35 years. This lifelong career afforded him the opportunity to be a contractor after hours – he could fix or build anything. In addition, it allowed him to be able to travel, visiting every state in the USA, as well as many foreign cities and countries on several continents. Retiring in 2001, he moved to Florida until 2006 when he relocated to Cumming.

Willing to try anything, and always wanting to learn something new, throughout the years Daniel enjoyed living life to the fullest. His interests included fishing, hunting, scuba diving, piloting small planes, learning foreign languages, motorcycles, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, and playing the weekly lottery. In addition, he took immense pleasure in woodworking and crafting beautiful pieces for his family and friends to enjoy.

Daniel was preceded in death by his brothers Fred Petrochko and Robert Petrochko, and sister Cecille Doremus. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lorelei Petrochko, who will miss him every day; daughter and son-in-law, Kristine and Paul Accetta, daughter, Phyllis Petrochko, son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Leah Petrochko, grandchildren, Luke Brix and Jennifer Karr, sister, Phyllis Stamile, several cousins, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss him dearly. Daniel will be remembered for his many talents, thirst for knowledge, creativity, cheerful outlook, kindness, and willingness to help others.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 19, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., and on Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at McDonald and Son Funeral Home in Cumming, GA.
