Clyde Wesley Hildebrand

Clyde Wesley Hildebrand (age 91) passed away on April 21st at the home of his daughter Marlene Kobus, in Cumming, Georgia. He was a member of St. Brendan Catholic Church. Prior to moving to Cumming, Georgia five years earlier, Mr. Hildebrand was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in New Castle, Delaware for 60+ years.

Raised in Hickory, North Carolina, Mr. Hildebrand joined the Navy in 1943 and participated in the D-Day invasion of France. While on shore leave in Wilmington, DE, he met Lucy Falkowski. They were married in 1946 and celebrated sixty-nine years together. After the war, Clyde attended Drexel and Temple Universities. A master carpenter, he built the home where he and Lucy raised their six children. Their door was always open to friends.

Clyde retired from DuPont and spent his retirement years doing the things he enjoyed most: traveling the world with Lucy, playing bluegrass music on his guitar, birdwatching, reading, riding his bike, and working on various carpentry projects for family and friends.

He will always be remembered for his delightful sense of humor, his quiet simplicity and humility, and his willingness to freely help those in need. He was a loving father, a fun grandfather and devoted husband. He was truly a man with no equal.

Mr. Hildebrand was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy. He is survived by his six children: Karen Groundland and husband Lowell, Danita Gregory and husband Donald, Bryan Hildebrand and wife Vicki, Lorraine Saints and husband Spencer, Marlene Kobus and husband Mark, Gail Pappas and husband Zissis, and eleven wonderful grandchildren.

A memorial mass and reception will be held at Saint Brendan Catholic Church, Cumming, Georgia at 3:00 pm on Thursday, April 28, 2016.
