Clara Jane Rash Buckland Lawrence

Clara went home to be with the Lord on March 28, 2025, surrounded by her children. Clara was born in Pageton, WV on March 8, 1930. Coming from an austere childhood, her life was characterized by love for, service to and generosity toward others. Her greatest passion in life was her love for God, who she never failed to praise for His goodness and depend on in difficult times. She cherished her relationships with her siblings, her children and their families, and her friends. She never failed to send a birthday card to those she knew.

Clara loved travel, watching football, wildlife programs and word puzzles. She was a fan of Taylor Swift, “Wheel of Fortune,” and “Jeopardy.” In addition to her love, warmth, and generosity, she will be remembered for her many Appalachian idioms, adages, and wives’ tales, which were legion and an endless source of entertainment for her children and grandchildren. She was also known for her sweet tooth, and her homemade fudge was legendary!

Clara was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Mae Rash; brothers, Horace, Raymond, Robert, and Joe; sisters, Mellie, Nellie, Hazel, and Betty; husbands, Charles Nye Buckland, and James Lawrence; grandson, Heath Compton and stepdaughter, Barbara Eller.
