Charlie is survived by his daughters Becky Smith (Charlie), Rhonda Deel (Bruce) and son: Charlie Banks "Chuck" Ramsey, Jr. (Candace); grandchildren Kathryn Richardson, Rachel Smith, Kassi McCoy, Kelsi Deel, Kensi Adams, Kaylin Moth, Karli Deel, Brandon Ramsey, Erika Henshaw, Caroline Ogle, Banks Ramsey, Stone Ramsey, Luke Ramsey, JP Ramsey and Leila Rose Ramsey. Charlie was also blessed with 11 great-grandchildren; Aiden Richardson, Colton Richardson, Branson Smith, Kade McCoy, Kason McCoy, Knox McCoy, Asher Adams, Skylar Jane Adams, Jack Moth, Jordan Moth and Elliana Henshaw.
Charlie "Banks" came from a humble, broken childhood as he was orphaned as a little boy at 18 months old and was raised in the Hughes Memorial Home for Children in Danville, Virginia. He came to Christ as a teenager and was unofficially "adopted" by a loving pastor's family with "brothers" like Hoyt Stone, Jimmy Stone, Lynn Stone, Neil Stone, and a "sister" like Wanda Stone Sluss. He walked around like an old NFL linebacker until Parkinson's took its toll on his body. He was always the life of the party. The volume of noise and fun always increased when he entered the room. He loved to pick at his children and those he loved. It was his love language. He was a hard worker, a good father, and beloved grandfather and great grandfather. His grandchildren often said, "Papa Charlie is the perfect grandfather!" And they were correct. He loved all of them deeply and they loved him deeply too. He had a grateful and humble spirit as he loved people and people loved him, too. He loved being with people. He was truly a bigger than life personality spreading his special brand of laughter and joy to all. As a pastor, he cried almost every time he preached. He was a good husband who realized that he simply couldn't live without his beloved wife of almost 64 years. She was so faithful to him taking care of him til the end. She got to heaven first but just barely. Dad went to sleep Saturday night here with us and he woke up in heaven on Sunday morning to rejoin Rita and his youngest child, Jamie. He lived just 19 days without his wife, Rita. We believe she petitioned the Father to bring him on home to be with her and we all know that her prayers were most often answered. He passed away from a broken heart this past Sunday morning. We were all surprised. Charlie and Rita Ramsey leave a rich legacy of faith, commitment to ministry, service in the name of Christ, and love for people that will live on in their children and their children's children for many generations.
We miss you both but deep in our hearts we know you are both in His eternal care. That was your ultimate goal. You made it! Well done Mom and Dad. We love you and we will see you soon.
His favorite verse is what inspired him to become a master at learning and remembering everyone's names. He would meet a new person, pull out his ink pen, write their name on the palm of his hand, and NEVER forget their name. He was amazing at this. He often said that remembering a person's name was very important and that it was an easy way to value others. As an orphan, he loved hearing people call his name. To him, it made him feel valued. He gave his first son his name and his son gave it to one of his sons who plans to give it to his son one day. Charlie's favorite Bible verse is found in Isaiah 49:16
"See, I have written your name on the palms of my hands. Always in my mind..."
