Charles T. Magarahan

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Thomas Magarahan “Charlie T.”, 77. He passed away peacefully at home on the shores of Lake Lanier in Cumming, Georgia on Wednesday, March 5th, 2025.

Charlie was born on July 1, 1947, in Greenville, South Carolina, the proud son of James and Frances Magarahan. He graduated with a BS from Loyola University and has a law degree from the University of Georgia. Charlie enjoyed being a successful criminal defense attorney and developed many close relationships along the way.

To say Charlie was an entertainer of any crowd is an understatement. Whether with close friends or family gatherings, he celebrated life to the fullest and brought joy and laughter to all who knew him. He enjoyed the water and cherished his lake home with Cathy for the last 35 years. Sunday brunches at Casa Margaritaville will never be the same without him.

Charlie is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Cathy Bottomy Magarahan, his siblings Jim (Melinda), Mike (Mary), Peggy (Danny). Dodie Cubitt Satterfield (Holland) and Tim (Cindy), nine nieces and nephews and numerous grandnephews and grandnieces. Charlie inherited a large loving extended family, including stepsons Chris Bottomy (Kim), Mike Bottomy (Patty) and preceded in death by Debbie Bottomy Bogart (Gary). There are several grandchildren and great grandchildren that will miss “Grandpa Chuck” immensely. Charlie was also close with his neighbor and friend Crista Heagerty and his “ejo” Marceleno Garcia.

Visitation will be held by the family on Tuesday March 11th from 2-5p at McDonald & Sons Funeral Home, 150 Sawnee Drive, Cumming, GA 30040. A funeral service will be held Wednesday March 12th at 2pm, also at McDonald & Sons Funeral Home.

We look forward to celebrating Charlie’s life and remembering the great times knowing he’s still entertaining from high above.
