Chanda B Drummond

–

Cumming, Georgia

Chanda Drummond (nee Hylander), age 82, passed away peacefully in the early hours of August 10, 2017, after a brief illness, while surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Matthew, and 5 children: Sharon Ahrens, Mark (Rebecca) Drummond, Heather (Mike) Mazzonna, Wendy (Lee) Tuten and Bob (MaryAnn) Drummond. She also leaves behind her sister, Byrna Hylander, 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

As anyone who knew her can attest, Chanda was an avid music lover with an incredible vocal talent which she passed down through the generations. She sang opera in her youth and had been selected for the Metropolitan Opera Company in New York, but her commitment to her family superseded her desire to perform on stage. She and Matthew sang duets together in many choral groups throughout New Jersey, Georgia and Florida. They performed in Gilbert and Sullivan operettas as well as various church choirs.

She enjoyed teaching voice and piano and was founder of The Marietta Girls Chorale. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

A celebration of her life will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cumming, Georgia on Sunday, August 13, 2017 @ 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the National Parkinson Foundation (Parkinson.org)
