Carolyn Towle Stiles Pendleton

December 6, 1936 – January 5, 2025

Carolyn Towle Stiles was born in Anniston, Alabama, to Clifford Stiles and Hazel Towle Stiles. She grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, spending her summers at Panama City Beach, Florida. Her childhood was extraordinary, marked by living in hotel penthouses and summers at the family’s beach house. Carolyn loved to share captivating stories, including tales of German submarines surfacing off the coast of Panama City Beach, hotel fires, and encounters with notable figures like Clark Gable. Her lifelong love of horses also began during these formative years.

After graduating from high school, Carolyn attended Stephens College, a women’s college in Columbia, Missouri, where she met Charlie Pendleton, the love of her life. At the time, Charlie was playing football for the University of Missouri. Carolyn later transferred to the University of Alabama while Charlie served in the Army.

On February 9, 1957, Carolyn and Charlie were married, beginning a 67-year journey of love and partnership that endured until Charlie's passing in 2024. Together, they raised their two children, Beth and Chuck, in Roswell, Georgia, where they surrounded themselves with horses, dogs, and cats.

Carolyn had a lifelong passion for horseback riding and a love of travel. After Charlie's retirement, they settled in Dahlonega, Georgia, where they continued to enjoy life together. Carolyn was a dedicated member of Roswell Presbyterian Church and later Dahlonega Methodist Church. She was very proud of her memberships in the “United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC)”, “Daughters of American Revolution (DAR)”, and the “National Society of the Colonial Dames of America (NSCDA)”. She also served as president of the Atlanta Equestrian Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Pendleton; her parents, Clifford and Hazel Stiles; her sister, Anne; and her daughter, Beth. She is lovingly survived by her sister, Richie; her son, Chuck; her daughter-in-law, Lisa; her grandson, Nicholas; her granddaughter-in-law, Alana; her great-grandson, Stiles; along with many nephews, nieces, and other beloved relatives who carry on her treasured family stories.
