Calvin "Cal" Eugene Hofer

Calvin "Cal" Hofer age 76 of Cumming, GA died September 1st, 2018 at his residence. Cal was born in Bridgewater, SD to the late Elias and Justina Hofer. Cal graduated from Bridgewater High School and went on to graduate from Dakota Wesleyan University. After serving in the United States Army, Cal began his career in the oil industry and retired from Colonial Oil in Savannah, GA. He was a member of Cumming First United Methodist Church.

Cal was a man of many talents whose interests included tennis, traveling, and the uncanny ability to fix and build almost anything. He enjoyed his retirement riding his motorcycle and seeing the country. Cal was truly known as a family man who enjoyed spending time with his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. Cal lived life to the fullest and was often heard saying in the best of times, "this is the life."

Services for Cal will be Friday, September 7th at 4PM at the McDonald and Son Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4PM prior to the service.

Cal is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Sharon Hofer. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Cynthia Hofer of Cumming, GA; daughters Cara Van Treek (Woody) of Cumming, GA and Chantel Edwards (Neil) of Newbury Park, CA. Also surviving are his sisters Shirley Pollman of Bridgewater, SD and JoAnne Goldammer (Lee) of Sioux Falls, SD and a brother Vernon Hofer (Deb) of Bridgewater, SD. He also leaves behind 5 grandchildren: Tyler and Sawyer Van Treek, and Abby, Paige, and Ethan Edwards.
