Byron Bourgeois

Mr. Byron Joseph (Choppy) Bourgeois, Jr., age 79 of Dahlonega passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a courageous battle with A.M.L.

A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Byron was born to parents Byron Joseph, Sr. and Jessie Brinkley Bourgeois on June 20, 1937. He retired from Abbott Laboratories as a pharmaceutical sales manager in 1999 after 34 years of service and had lived in Dahlonega since 2007. He was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Byron was a veteran having served his country in the U.S. Army.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 19 years, Joan Dillon Bourgeois; mother of their children (Robert, Michael, Ashley); brother, Michael Dale Bourgeois.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Betty Hottell Bourgeois, children; Robert Byron Bourgeois, Atlanta, Michael John (Andrea) Bourgeois, Alpharetta, Ashley Bourgeois (John Michael) Harbin, Dahlonega, sister; Judith Bourgeois Petrie, Baton Rouge, LA, sister-in-law; Barbara Bourgeois, Metairie, LA, grandchildren; Madelyn Burk Bourgeois, Michael Dillon Bourgeois and Reid Joseph Bourgeois, all of Alpharetta.

Funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at St. Luke Catholic Church. Father John Matejek and Father Neil Dhabliwala will officiate. Interment will follow in Dahlonega Memorial Park. A reception will follow at the Achasta Clubhouse. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 3rd from 6 - 9 p.m. at Dahlonega Funeral Home.
