Bonnie LaVerne (Carlisle) Westbrooks

–

Cumming, Georgia

Bonnie LaVerne Carlisle Westbrooks, 90, of Johns Creek, Georgia, passed away on April 8, 2023. She was predeceased by her husband Robert William Westbrooks, Sr.; her father, Dewey Lee Carlisle; her mother, Helen Drummond Carlisle; her sister, Nancy Carlisle Couch; her brother-in-law, Arthur Clifton Couch; and, her granddaughter, Catherine Faith Westbrooks. She left behind her sister, Martha Carlisle Baker, and her husband, J. Slater Baker; her son, Robert William Westbrooks, Jr., and his wife, Stephanie (Barrett) Westbrooks; her daughter, Julie Westbrooks Clyburn, and her husband, Douglas Clyburn; and, her daughter, Carol Westbrooks Dingler, and her husband, Scott Dingler. She had seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A true Southern woman and her family's own Golden Girl, Bonnie was born and raised in Atlanta. She graduated from O'Keefe High School in 1950 as the Valedictorian and during her school years served as the yearbook's girls' sports editor and was an active leader in many clubs. Bonnie met Robert William Westbrooks, Sr. on a blind date at The Varsity and claimed it was "love at first sight." Shortly after, in 1952, they married at her pastor's home. Bonnie and Bill went on to have three children, Robbie, Julie and Carol and resided in Marietta. Widowed at a young age, Bonnie lived a life of grace and resilience, becoming a career woman and working in Human Resources for Home Insurance while raising her three beautiful children. She lived in Marietta for 47 years before moving to Johns Creek where she spent her last 23 years. The matriarch of a large extended family, Bonnie was a strong woman, good mother, loyal sister and faithful friend with a contagious smile and beloved sense of humor. Expert banana pudding-maker and perfecter of the pecan pie, she was a devoted grandmother who passed down to the next generations her love of a good book (at least three of which she was reading when she passed), the importance of a well-seasoned cast iron skillet and her respect for those who still use the word "y'all." Bonnie was a coffee connoisseur to the very end, even requesting a cup moments before she met the Lord. Her family feels certain she just wanted to be prepared to sit and visit when she arrived at the Gates. Bonnie was a true Southern legacy and will be deeply missed by all who loved her dearly.

Services will be held at McDonald & Son Funeral Home Chapel, 150 Sawnee Drive, Cumming, Georgia 30040, on April 21, 2023, at 11 a.m. Prior to the service, a visitation will be held at 10 a.m.
