–

Cumming, Georgia

Bonnie Lynn Short, “Mema”, age 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday August 9, 2026, at Manor Lake Assisted Living in Dawsonville Georgia. She was born on November 21,1948 in Hopewell New Jersey, daughter of the late Wallace and Mary (Wyckoff) Boice.

Bonnie grew up in Princeton. In the summers her parents would take her to Carnegie Lake. Her parents friended a man with a boat which Bonnie frequently sailed on. This man would turn out to be Albert Einstein. Bonnie graduated from Princeton Highschool in 1966. Durning her teenage years, Bonnie would save her lunch money and take the train into New York City. It was in Greenwich Village that she met Bob Dylan, playing on the streets. She grew a fond love for her new friend and his music which continued throughout her life. Bonnie also charmed the hearts of many. She dated John Lithgow in high school. In the 1970’s, she turned down a date from Ted Turner. She ended up in the circle of the Allman Brothers in the North Georgia mountains and met Burt Reynolds at the Limelight Club.

Bonnie graduated from Jacksonville State University in 1968 with a degree in Business. Bonnie worked several jobs in her adult life before landing a career with Prudential Real Estate, from where she would retire.

Bonnie would have a few marriages before she met the love of her life Gary Lee Short in 1986. It was with Gary she built the life she loved. Bonnie and Gary both owned Harley’s and would spend the weekends in the North Georgia Mountains or at Biker Rallies. They owned a time share at the Boardwalk Inn in Disney World where they would share their love of Mickey with their grandkids. She loved horses and would enroll her grand daughters in riding lessons. If you knew Bonnie, you knew she loved her dogs. Enzo, Axel, Boo Boo, and Gerdie all called Bonnie mom, but she especially loved her German Shepard, Bentley Archer.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 30 years Gary L Short, her brother John W. Boice, and her daughter in law Ann Marie Bellinger.

Bonnie is survived by her son, Timothy E. Bellinger (Julie). Grandchildren, Ashton Huffman (Joey) Brooke Bellinger, Beau Bellinger, John Bellinger and Alexis Walker. Great grandchildren Emerson and Emmitt Huffman, and nephew John Boice.
