Betty Smith

Betty C, Smith, age 89 of Cumming, Ga died peacefully early in the morning of October 11, 2026.

She was born and raised in Greene County GA. Growing up on a farm, she learned a love for nature and animals. She graduated as Valedictorian of her class at Unjon Point high-school.

After graduation from business school, she worked for MONY as a secretary until she had her first child. In 1961, she married Hubert Smith and remained married until his passing in 2009.

She was a homemaker and church volunteer until returning to work in the 1980s as a secretary for a newspaper.

She played piano and organ for churches she belong to, and children's choirs. She taught Sunday School, as well.

She is preceded in death by her parent Alvie and Lena Cook , her siblings Walter Cook, and Rebecca I've and a nephew Tony I've. Also proceeding her in death was her beloved husband Hubert Smith.

She is survived by son's David Smith of Cumming and Steven Smith of Atlanta, as well as great nieces and in laws.

Visitation will be on Friday, October 16th, 2026 from 10am-11am at First Baptist Church Cumming.

Memorial services will also be held at the church beginning at 11am following the visitation, with inurnment following the service at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the charity of your choice.
