Beckie Johnson

–

Dahlonega, Georgia

Beckie Monroe Johnson peacefully entered into God’s care on October 2, 2024, surrounded by her loving family, leaving behind a life lived with humility, selflessness and grace.
A memorial service will be held at Dahlonega Funeral Home, 20 Gibson Road, Dahlonega, Georgia, on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.
Beckie was the oldest daughter of the late Ira Lafayette Monroe, Jr. and Patsy Burch Monroe. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Stuart, two daughters, Kendall and Kirby(James), a younger sister, Beth, 2 nieces, Sarah (Ben) and Kallie (Eric), a great nephew, James, and her beloved dog, Gracie.
Her early years were spent in southern Mississippi where she learned to appreciate really good home cooking. She attended the University of Southern Mississippi where she earned a degree in both History and Spanish. After graduation she worked for the Mississippi Department of Archives and History in Jackson and later for the South Carolina Departments of Archives and History in Columbia. Later she worked for the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation and the Georgia Department Of Community Affairs.
She met Stuart in South Carolina where they began their life together. Family was always important to Beckie, and becoming a mother was one of her dreams. She loved Stuart, Kendall and Kirby with all her heart.
Stuart’s work with the National Park Service allowed them to live in Atlanta (twice), Natchez, Mississippi, and Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Retirement brought them to Dahlonega where they have enjoyed the beauty of the North Georgia mountains.
Wherever they lived, Beckie thrived on relationships, humor and the word of God. Friends were always welcomed and cherished, and laughter was a part of any gathering. A natural born storyteller and never at a loss for words, she loved to share her heart. She was creative and talented and enjoyed reading, writing, music and musical theater. And her organizational skills were unparalleled.
Beckie’s strong faith was the cornerstone of her life. She devoted decades to leading women’s Bible studies, including leadership roles with Community Bible Studies, a local and global teaching ministry. She continued teaching home-based Bible studies until the spring of 2024. Through her faithful and Godly leadership, the course of many lives were changed. Her church family was also very important to her, and we are grateful for their loving care in these recent months.
It would not have been possible to navigate these difficult times without the guidance and care of Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center as well as the help of our caregiver Stephanie Smith. For those desiring memorial contributions, the family suggests Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, 2150 Limestone Pkwy, Suite 222, Gainesville, GA 30501.
