Ana Das, fondly known as Shyamoli, leaves behind a legacy of love and joy that touched many during her lifetime. Born as Anuradha Mitra on November 3, 1949, in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India, she grew up in Kolkata, West Bengal. She completed her education at South Calcutta Girls College and embarked on a new chapter in her life when she married her husband, Priya Kumar (P.K.) Das, in September 1975, following a fortuitous meeting. Ana and P.K. thrived in the United States, settling in Georgia and building a loving family that was the centerpiece of their lives.
Ana's career in the financial industry spanned many years, where she worked as a bookkeeper, teller, and loan officer. A vibrant soul, she loved socializing, gardening, traveling, and engaging in arts and cultural activities. Ana truly enjoyed traveling the world with her family, with a trip to India and the Taj Mahal standing out as a cherished favorite. Her artistic talents shone through in her drawings and paintings, and she spent many hours knitting blankets and clothing for her beloved granddaughter while indulging in her favorite Indian soap operas. Ana also enjoyed acting in and directing various Bengali plays, particularly in the Pujari community where she was a revered figure, and her extravagant Christmas parties came to be a treasured annual tradition.
Ana was preceded in death by her husband, her parents Nara Hari and Rama Rani Mitra, and her brother, Ashim Mitra. She is survived by her brother Swapan Mitra, her son Rupak Das, daughter-in-law Tabitha (Taylor) Das, and granddaughter Ryanne Celeste Das, all of whom she loved dearly and held close to her heart.
Her husband's passing in January 2024 was a profound loss for Ana. She passed away peacefully at 9:52 PM on April 12, 2024, at her home in Alpharetta, Georgia, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
