Amelia Joyce Barcus, lovingly known as “Mimi,” 80, of Cumming, Georgia, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026. She was born on April 15, 1945, in Cheverly, Maryland.
Amelia lived in Fallston, Maryland; Lilburn, Georgia; and Germantown, Maryland, and Destin, Florida before eventually settling in Cumming, Georgia, where she found her way home surrounded by family and faith.
Amelia lived a life defined by love, faith, hope, and selflessness. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who always put the needs of others before her own. A quiet strength and steady presence, she guided her family with compassion, grace, and unwavering faith. Amelia raised five children, instilling in them strong Christian values, kindness, and the importance of family.
Her faith was the foundation of her life, and her life was a reflection of hope. Amelia’s favorite word was “hope,” a reflection of the way she lived each day—with faith, optimism, and quiet strength. She found comfort in prayer and joy in serving others, and her deep belief in God carried her through each day.
She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren deeply, and her happiest moments were when the entire family was together. She cherished beach trips with her family, large gatherings at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and the simple joy of being surrounded by those she loved. She also enjoyed working on puzzles and faithfully attending church.
Amelia always gave more than she took, constantly thinking of others before herself—a true reflection of her generous and selfless heart. Her gentle spirit, warm heart, and generous nature touched all who knew her, and she had a special gift for making others feel welcome and loved.
She is preceded in death by her parents Guido and Marjorie and her siblings Anthony (Tony) and Margaret (Peggy). She is survived by her loving husband, Joseph Michael Barcus, Sr.; her children, Margaret Towe Michael Barcus, Patrick Barcus, Marybeth Fuller and Paul Barcus; her ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren and the many other loving members of her extended family.
Amelia will be remembered for her warmth, her unwavering love for her family, and the peace she brought to those around her. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is now at peace in the presence of the Lord.
A funeral Mass will be held at St, Brendan's Catholic Church (4633 Shiloh Rd., Cumming GA 30040) on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 10:30AM, with burial to follow at 1:00PM at Peachtree Memorial Park. (5051 Peachtree Industrial Blvd., Norcross, GA 30092.
